We love hands-on learning in our homeschool. My daughters like to build and create so I’m always looking for opportunities to do that in our studies. Encouraging their interests in science and technology is a priority as well. Creation Crate combines STEM learning with hands-on projects and delivers them right to your door.
Note: I received a free Creation Crate subscription box for the purpose of review. I was not required to write a positive review and all opinions are 100% my own.
What is Creation Crate?
Think of Creation Crate as technology in a box. Kids get to build hardware and program software. A new project will arrive on your doorstep every month, which simplifies your plans as a homeschool parent!
Each kit contains:
- The UNO R3 (think pocket-sized computer)
- Various components
- Instruction booklet
Basically, they do all the hard work for you and leave you with the FUN! Keep in mind that everything you need is right in the box. Although, you will need access to a computer and the Internet.
We received a Creation Crate with all the supplies necessary to make a color-changing Mood Lamp. This included a USB cord to plug it into the computer, a paper lantern to cover the mini lightbulbs, the UNO programmable computer board, and the wires and jumpers.
My oldest daughter (15) was anxious to get started right away. She was able to follow the instructions and put the board components together. My husband and I observed along with her younger sisters. The whole family learned together!
After putting the components together, the next part required downloading software and writing the code on the computer to get the lamp to work. This step was different than other electronics kits we’ve put together in the past. It went beyond just using the wiring and jumpers and took it to a new level of technology project.
This project covered electronics, hardware, software, and coding all in one.
This is the kind of hands-on learning that we love, but that doesn’t happen often enough if we aren’t intentional about it. Having the box delivered monthly is ideal — I don’t have to worry about hunting down supplies and planning it out.
