Welcome Wagon

blue door by sisterlisa, on Pix-O-SphereEvery year the Homeschool Blog Awards has the category of NEW Homeschool Blog, but wouldn’t ya know it, when the time for nominating comes… we don’t know who the new bloggers are! And we REALLY want to help welcome them to the online homeschool community.

So with that in mind, we are hosting this special Welcome Wagon for all homeschool bloggers who started their homeschool blog AFTER October 2010.

We would like for all those new homeschoolers to link up so the community can come by and welcome you. Then when nominating time comes, folks can nominate your blog for the New Homeschool Blogger category.

To qualify to win the NEW category in the awards your homeschool blog must be new since October of 2010. Here is more information from the legal page:

Family friendly (G-rated) blogs only. Do not nominate a blog that has cussing (no potty mouth), photographic nudity (we aren’t talking about one image of some sculpture from the 1500’s in an art post), sexual content, or hostility toward other bloggers.

Do not nominate a blog that has nothing to do with homeschooling – nor a blog that is hostile towards homeschooling.

You can tell by reading someone’s blog posts about homeschooling if they are doing it or contributing towards others doing it. This is a general rule to weed out those who would nominate people that are…

…a blog that is from someone who has never mentioned that they homeschool
…a blog that mentioned it once in 2005 and never did again
…a blog that is negative about homeschooling
…a blog that is by someone whose great-aunt’s housekeeper homeschools and she mentions it in passing a few times
…a blog that is mainly about public school and community college and not really about homeschool at all

If you have kids at home and you haven’t officially started calling it homeschooling, but you are working with them to teach them at home, and you are considering homeschooling, you may still be nominated, as long as you meet the other requirements of the category for which you were nominated.

Also, if your kids are taking some college classes at a campus and then doing other homeschool work at home and you are discussing those learning moments or talking about what you did to get them graduated from homeschool up to this point, that qualifies, as well.

If your kids have left home, have all gone to college, and you spent the entire year just having fun and not helping them any more with education and your blog is mainly now about your new Lexus and the time you spend at Disney World, well . . . then that would be questionable.

We’ll leave the linky open until  October 1st and PRETTY PLEASE keep promoting this link up so we can be sure all new homeschool bloggers have had a chance to get linked up.

Hi There! I’m a mom of 6, grandma of 1. I homeschool my 2 little ones (8 and 6), 1 of my older 4 is married, and the other 3 are off to college! Never a dull moment here at Casa Chaos! ~Erika

Aloha! I am probably just missing something–but I don’t see the “linky” that I should be adding!
I just started blogging in January 2011…and I write often about homeschooling my four boys and our life in Hawaii…
let me know what I should do to be in the community!

Question, I made a handful of posts in March 2010….then ONE in October 2010…but didn’t really jump on the homeschool blog bandwagon until April 2011….would I qualify as a newbie?

Thank you for hosting this Linky! It is always a joy for me to find a new blog. This year I have decided to homeschool my two youngest children. We are starting school on Sept 6. We are using our blog to hopefully be resourceful to others. Our regular postings will resume then as well.Thank you again for sharing

I don’t know if I qualify for a new homeschool blog? While my blog originally started so long distance family could ‘see’ what we were learning, they apparently aren’t interested in it and so I blog about a variety of topics, some homeschooling posts. I’ve been blogging for just over a year. Thanks.

I JUST started my blog, but I’m looking forward to being a part of the community more than just posting. I have another blog where I just post, but I’m looking forward to looking up all these links and diving in!

    Thank you!

    Hello all,
My name is Carlie and I just started my blog, So You Call Yourself A Homeschooler? at the end of May 2011. It gives you some insight to our Christian military homeschooling family life that is currently taking place with our family of 5 in Germany. My blog has many different types of focuses, the newest concept is “Homeschooling, From A Father’s Perspective.” My husband writes this column weekly and is currently deployed to Afghanistan (his 5th tour) – this column has gained a lot of attention and is a great addition to our blog :) I also post about heartfelt topics – such as how to deal with negative feelings, how to capture your children’s hearts, deployment, etc. We also post many other great topics that appeal to a wide variety of people. We currently have 300 fans on our FB page and over 5,000 unique visitors from 36 countries since the end of May. Please come and take a look – you won’t regret it! We’ve been homeschooling all the children since day 1 – it is my passion – and God given ministry :)

So I just heard about this Welcome Wagon link up, and discover it’s been closed already! My blog so SO NEW that it didn’t even exist when you posted this. Unless it doesn’t count because I had another one before…? :)

I am bummed, I seem to have missed this opening. Is there a “welcome wagon” for those of us that have started this year (2012)? I’d love to start getting some feedback while sharing our experiences with this community that has been so helpful to us too.

I’d like to add my blog to the list, but I am not seeing how to do it. What am I missing? I’m excited to be a part of this community!
