About Toni

Hello everyone, I am so excited to be joining the team of writers here at The Homeschool Post.

I am a mom to six kids, ages 3 to 14 and expecting baby number seven in the next few weeks. We are currently in our ninth year of homeschooling.

Homeschooling has been great for our family because the military has moved us every two years for the past nine years. We have lived in four different states as well as overseas. Needless to say, the HSLDA website is my best friend and I am always researching homeschool laws in states we could live in.

I have four school aged children, three boys and one girl. I also have a two little girls who love their informal school time with me. This is my first year homeschooling a high schooler and I must say it is challenging and rewarding. We use a variety of curriculum because all my children are so different and have totally different learning styles. I joke with my friends that I have probably used every curriculum ever published trying to find the perfect fit for each child.

Although when our first child was born fourteen years ago I would have never considered homeschooling, I am so thankful the Lord opened our hearts and many doors to allow us to begin homeschooling when she was in first grade. It has been a wonderful experience and I couldn’t imagine my children learning in any other environment.

Over the past nine years we have moved five times and I believe that homeschooling has been a consistent factor in their lives, regardless of where we have lived. For many years my husband worked crazy shifts and homeschooling allowed us to spend time with dad when he was at home, even if that meant a Monday morning or Wednesday afternoon.

Because our family is always moving and growing our homeschooling schedule changes year to year. This year we decided not to participate in the wonderful co-op offered in our area because we needed to catch up in some core subjects. Other years we have had more time and participated in co-ops, field trips, and special projects. I am thankful homeschooling has allowed my children to have some once in a lifetime opportunities.
