About Sheila

If you want to know me, you have to know my kids. And my knitting.

Let’s start with the kids! I homeschool three of them: Rebecca (13), Katie (11), and Alex (13, who is my nephew). We have a great time unless one of us is in a mood. And then we bring out the chocolate.

We’ve been homeschooling for eight years now, since Rebecca entered grade one. She did go to kindergarten, but she was already reading and they did nothing to challenge her. We decided that academically they would do much better at home, and we’d be able to spend more time with them. Over the years, I have also come to realize how much stronger their faith is when they are at home, and how much better behaved they are. And it’s not just because of the chocolate.

We use a classical education approach, and work the kids hard! They read Shakespeare at a pretty young age, learn Latin and Greek, and have to write many essays. They hate editing. And practising piano. These are the banes of our existence.

Small town Ontario, Canada is where we call home, and we love it. I grew up a city girl in downtown Toronto, and you couldn’t pay me enough to go back there!

In my mountains of spare time I write. And knit. But let’s deal with the writing first. I’m the author of four books, including To Love, Honor and Vacuum: When you feel more like a maid than a wife and a mother, which has a special appendix just for homeschoolers. I also wrote Honey, I Don’t Have a Headache Tonight: Help for women who want to feel more in the mood. Let’s just say that my husband liked the research!

I also write a syndicated parenting column, and numerous other columns that appear in the Christian Life Times, Seven (the Promise Keepers magazine in Canada), Heart of the Matter, Christian Mommies, and more! I love to write, probably because I love to tell people what to do.

I also speak. At women’s conferences. Preferably where there is chocolate.

And finally, I knit. Even in line at the grocery store (I always have a pair of socks going in my purse).

If you want to come and get to know me and all my foibles better, head on over to my blog at To Love, Honor and Vacuum. You can also head on over to Sheila Wray Gregoire to read my columns and articles, check out my speaking, and in general spy on me!
