About Darcy
Bios are hard. I’m mostly self-deprecating, so I don’t pretend how I describe myself might be how anyone perceives me. But it’s my bio, so here goes!
I started reading shortly before my 4th birthday. Realizing that I didn’t read books, I devoured them, my mom prepared herself for a precocious daughter who read everything from cereal boxes to big novels. That was late 1979. Not much has changed.
Well, I suppose I’m a little taller.
My love affair with the written word only intensified when I discovered great authors like E.B White, Frances Hodgson Burnett, Laura Ingalls Wilder, Madeleine L’Engle, C. S. Lewis, Edith Nesbit, and later, authors like Louisa May Alcott and Dante Alighieri and, well, okay… can I add Stephenie Meyer to this list? I wouldn’t be honest if I didn’t. It’s okay. You can laugh.
All of these authors journeyed with me, helped me grow up, comforted me, helped me escape… whatever I was searching for at the time, I often found in the pages of a good book.
It wasn’t until my 3rd son was born tiny and very, very sick that I discovered writing. Until then, writing had always been something I was forced to do. Book reports, term papers and finally a big ol’ long university paper on Dante that took an entire semester. But in that very dark spring of 2003, writing became the escape. Words I couldn’t say without breaking down, I could write. Not only that, but I came out the other end with a sense of clarity. Writing is cathartic. Writing is healing. Writing is empowering.
My blog was born in July of 2005. I haven’t stopped writing since. I don’t claim to be very good at it. I never expect it will earn me anything other than a meaningless Google rank. But I hope to have something to pass on to my kids, and it may be their childhood stories from the perspective of their mom.

My husband and I and our three boybarians live in Iowa. My husband designs homes, and I design blogs. Together we take photos of families, couples, babies and pretty much everything we see.
You can find me on my blog, Life with my 3 Boybarians.
