I’m Elizabeth. Liz. “Mom”. “Hey you!” or “Can I have a snack?” I’ll go by any of them! I’m a follower of Jesus Christ and I strive to treat every single person the way He would want them to be treated and with the grace He gives me.
In a nutshell, I’m married to my high school sweetheart. We have four beautiful boys, Noah (6 1/2), Brody (4 1/2), Hudson (2 1/2), and Sawyer (8 months). Are we done? Will we try for a girl? Keep in touch. We’ll see!
I always wanted that ‘average’, ‘perfect’, and ‘planned’ life. I had a big fancy wedding. We bought a home. We had impressive educations and good jobs to buy lots of stuff. The stuff made us feel really good and looked really good to everyone else. I thought that’s what mattered.
A little over a year after our first son was born, we found ourselves in a dark place. My mother died of breast cancer the year before, we had buried ourselves in mountains of debt and our child NEVER slept. We were young and had made so many bad decisions. The big house, shiny car, and fancy exterior we were working towards just didn’t make sense any more. So we pulled the plug…we became WEIRD.
We sold our home, sold our cars, got second jobs, went back to school, paid off everything, and started over. We both had second jobs and ate rice and beans for nearly a year. My husband started a new job during this time and I quit my job teaching to stay at home. We loved it so much, we decided we’d take the weirdness a step further and homeschool.
My oldest will be starting 1st grade (and sorta second grade…hey…we homeschoolers like to be in between it like that ). My 4 1/2 year old will be starting Kinder a bit early this year because he’s too excited and anxious to get the ball rolling! (And so am I!)
Homeschooling 4 little boys is very challenging. Many times the terrible two’s and the crawling baby get the best of me and we get next to nothing done. Other days are beautiful.
Many a day I want to drop the kids off at the nearest public school and run home to watch Matt Lauer and scrub my floors without someone asking for a snack. But….that would be EASY….and the easy way ain’t always the best way.
My goal here is simple and complicated. I want to share my journey with other wives, mothers, and homeschoolers through my blog The Hesitant Housewife. I may inspire you, make you laugh, or scare you away. I love to write about truth and inspire other moms to take the leap of faith to homeschool if they feel called to it.
