I’m not a resolution kinda mom. On January 1, I’m no more likely to start something new/good/healthy as I am to start on March 23.
So when I found the 12 in 12 program I thought, “Perfect! A new good thing every month.” (Plus I’m a serious joiner!)
Each month you commit to doing (or not doing) one thing.
“12 Commitments. 12 Months. Start anytime!”
That’s the tagline. One commitment each month.
One.
Not two. Not a few.
One.
Flossing in January
I decided my first month commitment was to floss. I know I need to. And actually, I like to. I just don’t for some reason.
But ever since I started (January 7, I think), I’ve flossed everyday.
And my daughter sees me, so she wants to join in.
I’m developing a good habit for myself, and I’m helping her to create one too!
What’s in February?
I’ve been thinking about what I’ll do in February. But I’ve been thinking about what I’ll do – without thinking about the impact I have on her.
So now I’m making a list of the things I want to model for her. A list of habits a strong, smart woman has. A list of things that a girl can watch her mom do and when she picks it up, she’s a better person for it.
Here’s my list, in no particular order:
- Floss (January)
- Move my body 10 minutes.
- Stop biting my nails.
- Stretch in the morning.
- Pick a theme song and play it loudly (and sing along).
- Eat a fruit.
- Compliment someone.
- Neaten the living room before bed.
- Make my bed in the morning.
- Leave the house without forgetting something.
- Display happiness in a childlike way (laugh, skip, wiggle, etc.).
- Read something printed on paper.
I’m not sure what I’ll pick for February. Clearly I want to do them all – so now it’s about only picking one. If I try to do them all, I’ll be doomed.

What a cool idea! Looking forward to reading what you do in February. Praying about joining the bandwagon myself!
Betsy – I’m really thinking I’ll do #Move12 in February (I like the “12″ thing). This means I’ll commit to “moving” for 12 minutes everyday. That might be jumping on our trampoline, going to the gym or just strapping the girl to the bike and going for a quick ride.
Hopefully the 12 will turn into 30, but if it’s only 12, it’s 12 more than 0.
I look forward to hearing if you get called to be a part of it!
Had not heard of the version of 12 in 12 that you’re doing, but it sounds like a great idea.
My daughters and I are doing one that we thought of in December and also had named 12 in 12 – but we’re doing 12 activities each month for 12 months that positively affect other people, animals, and/or the environment.
Here’s what we did during January:

How fun, Ann! It’s like a 12 in 12 in 12!
And it’s about helping others – instead of yourself – which is fabulous. We often forget to be kind and generous because we’re so busy. But making a point of it means getting into a great habit – so that it’s 2nd nature.
Yay for you!
I’m in!
What’s your February one?
I think that’s a great idea. I tried the 3 in 30, but couldn’t even manage that for more than a month. I think ONE at a time might be doable. LOL!! Thanks for sharing!
Yeah – I’d love to give two or three a go. But I know, from experience, I’d fail. This one at a time is great.
I’m on Day 2 of Feb – and have jumped on the trampoline both days. Today in the rain!
Thanks, Dianne!
