fearfully and wonderfully made

by Beth on February 1, 2011

Today I’ve chosen to lend your ear to my precious, eldest daughter, who will be turning 12 years old in one week… this beautiful young lady, from whom I am learning so much. I was discouraged yesterday, and this morning, as the flurry of life from this winter-season’s events in my world has left my brain suffering from a bout of writerly whiteout. As I bemoaned my sad, sorry state aloud this morning, again, Tabitha so convincingly suggested,

“I know Mom! You can write about the uniqueness of a snowflake, and of how they’re like us!”

She is ever-inspired, it seems; and ever-inspiring. However, the light in her eyes was more than I could muster, and so I suggested that maybe SHE should write about that, for me- for you; enlighten us, since it seemed to be burgeoning right out of her very soul, spilling some needed assurance of divine purpose and design in the smallest of things right into mine.

“Me? You want me to write it, for the Homeschool Post site? Really?”

“Yep, I think you should… it sounds like you have something to say. You are, after all, fearfully and wonderfully made. Right?”

She smiled, and agreed. Then she sat down for a while with her laptop, and within the hour, emailed me this… I’m sure that she’d love to hear your feedback too. Every writer needs an audience, right? Enjoy.

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.

~ Psalm 139:14

As I play out in the snow, I look up and watch the individual sparkling snowflakes, falling down from the heavens, and I realize; Yeshua designed every single one, in their very own unique way. No snowflake is the same as another. When I compare a snowflake with a human being, they seem similar. Just like the snowflake, no human being is the same. Even identical twins aren’t the same; though they may look like each other, they each have a different way of things. One might like the taste of say, walnuts, and the other not like nuts at all. When I think of Yeshua, making us, I think of him painting, or sculpting clay; making us as he sees how we will be.

My mom gave my brother and I this Psalm to memorize for some of our school work. As I read it I feel an understanding for scripture, and it opens up new thoughts in my head. It motivates, and encourages me to look deeper. So I added this to my guest post, because it intertwines with what I was already writing, and it is kind of the base of my post, and brings out the true meaning of it.

Just think, how could the big BANG theory of how the earth was created really be true? Look at how Fearfully and Wonderfully made we are! How could a big BANG create the amazingly unique design of the snowflake, and the human being?

O Lord, you have searched me

and you know me

You know when I sit, and when I rise;

you perceive my thoughts from afar.

You discern my going out and my lying down;

you are familiar with all my ways.

Before a word is on my tongue

you know it completely, O Lord.

You hem me in-behind and before;

you have laid your hand upon me.

Such knowledge is to wonderful for me,

too lofty for me to attain.

Where can I go from your Spirit?

Where can I flee from your presence?

If I go up to the heavens, you are there;

if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.

If I rise on the wings of the dawn,

if I settle on the far side of the sea,

even there your hand will guide me,

your right hand will hold me fast.

If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me

and the light become night around me,”

even the darkness will not be dark to you;

the night will shine like the day,

for darkness is as light to you.

For you created my inmost being;

you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully

made;

your works are wonderful,

I know that full well.

My frame was not hidden from you

when I was made in the secret place.

When I was woven together in the depths of the

earth,

your eyes saw my unformed body.

All the days ordained for me

were written in your book

before one of them came to be.

How precious to are your thoughts, O God!

How vast is the sum of them!

Were I to count them,

they would outnumber the grains of sand.

When I awake,

I am still with you.

If only you would slay the wicked, O God!

Away from me, you bloodthirsty men!

They speak of you with evil intent;

your adversaries misuse your name.

Do I not hate those who hate you, O Lord,

and abhor those who rise up against you?

I have nothing but hatred for them;

I count them my enemies.

Search me, O God, and know my heart;

test me and know my anxious thoughts.

See if there is any offensive way in me,

and lead me in the way everlasting.

~ Psalm 139

Way to go Tabitha! I enjoyed your post very much! I need to thank you, because this post has been very helpful to me as a new homeschool mom. My daughter, who is 9, grumbles about writing, but she loved what you wrote, and the photos and the neat links! You have inspired her to help me out a little on our family blog!

Thank you, I truly enjoyed writing that. I guess you could say it opened up my mind in the morning for what was next to come, math, copy work, history, violin practice…etc, etc, etc…..
I need to write in the morning more often! =)

TAB!!

Your writing is SOOO gorgeous. I was amazed at your vocabulary skills. What a talent. You are becoming quite a young lady. I hope that you are journaling more often than I have been. I am thinking the same thing as you….I should write more often in the mornings.

I was brought to tears (at work even!) when I got to Psalm 139. What a profound reminder and just what I needed to read for so many reasons. God spoke to me through you and this is the Scripture I will be praying every day.

Bless you! I love and miss you TONS.

Tabitha,

Thank you for giving your mom some needed infusion to fill the dry spots and the rest of us such simple inspiration.
I’ve always loved the winter season, it brings a certain calmness to our home, but I have to admit this year it kind of dampened my spirits a bit with all the shoveling and treading around we’ve had to do here in Joisey.

From now on every time I see a ‘Snowflake’ I’ll remember that just like each one of us, Yah has arrayed it with it’s own uniqueness and beauty. The only BANG here has been your thoughtful writing.
Happy 12th birthday!
Lina
