Fun Summer {School} ~ Become a WebRanger

by Ruthanne on June 21, 2010

Looking for an educational resource for the children this summer, but don’t want anything too intense? Check out the National Park Service WebRangers.

The WebRangers program is a branch off of the Junior Rangers program (which I’ve personally done with my children and can testify to how much fun they had).

On the WebRangers website, there are seven categories a child can choose from:

People
History
Nature
Puzzles
Science
Parks
Animals

The activities in each category are given levels of difficulty: easy, medium or hard.

Here are a few activities to wet your appetite:

The Patriot Spy ~ Sneak past enemy soldiers and deliver a letter to Paul Revere
George Washington’s Secret Code
Map Match
The Puma Challenge ~ A Matter of Survival
The Great Smoky Mountains Rebus

What are some fun educational resources you’ve come across that would be great for the summer months?

As our kids get older it is a challenge to find ways to keep them busy and active, minds and bodies. I have a 13yo energetic girl and I am thrilled to have her be a part of a christian horse ranch (not sure of the horses spiritual position! ;-) )to volunteer as a ranch hand and serve, and be around horses which she loves. I also just signed her up to be on the junior aquatics staff, in which she will get lots of swim practice, learn life guarding skills and how to teach swim lessons.

Can’t wait to show my daughter this! I already signed her up. When we visit yellowstone (no parks within a couple hours of here unfortunately that are doing the programs) when we go see my parents we are definately going to do the junior ranger program! I have been hunting down free homeschool resources all over the web this summer, and this is an excellent supplement to our science/social studies curriculum! Thank you!
