Nine months of the year we spend teaching our children what they need to learn. We scour over curriculum choices, we make lessons plans and schedules and we look for opportunities for our children to learn new things. In the midst of all that, if you’re like me, you don’t have much time leftover for you.
This summer I am going to challenge myself to learn something new. I love to knit and I taught myself that about 5 years ago. Now I have plenty of projects on my list right now (click here to check them out), but this summer I would like to teach myself something I’ve wanted to do for some time. Funny, I don’t know the name for it – I think back stitiching or hand stitching?? You know, like this…
Looks easy right – and not perfect… just up my lane. I have a quote I would like to do first and then, if all goes well, maybe some Christmas things – like snowman or a cute tree. Anyone have any sites that can help me get started – share them!
Now what about you? Do you have something you can challenge yourself to learn this summer. Maybe knitting, crocheting, scrapbooking (that last one I ‘d love to do… but NEVER have done… it is way to overwhelming!). Why don’t you find something and get to it! Make it a summer to learn something new yourself!

I love teaching myself to do new things. For me this year and hopefully longer, cause that is how long it will take, is working on my photography skills. I’ve found that I love it. But yes, knitting too. I received a knitting class for Christmas and that was fun to learn a little more and make a few hats.
This summer I am learning Latin. I need to teach Latin II in Classical Conversations next year, and I’ve never had Latin I. I started an online course last week. It looks really hard, but it’s kind of fun, feeling like I’m back in school.
I will be teaching myself to solder this summer. I have always loved those beaded windchimes and suncatchers that you see everywhere and the one key element I am missing to make mine look awesome is the soldering.
Good luck on your endeavor!
found your site on del.icio.us today and really liked it.. i bookmarked it and will be back to check it out some more later
