If you homeschool, you know that the myth that homeschoolers are unsocialized is just that: a myth. We exhaust my mother-in-law when she visits, just trying to keep up with our school year schedule. Summer is a great time just to kick back and relax, but it’s still important—and a whole lot of fun!—to plan some summer socials.
Our local bowling alley runs some sweet deals from 9 p.m. – midnight on Wednesday and Sunday nights: $1 bowling; $1 shoes; $1 laser tag. They also have homeschool specials. Search for deals in your area. You might even be able to convince a local business of the value of running specials for homeschoolers. We tend to be loyal customers and can provide business during off-peak hours, when others are in school (of course, this doesn’t apply to summer).
We had a great time Wednesday night hitting the bowling alley with four other families. We spread out into six adjoining lanes, and everyone bowled with their own age group. The boys and the girls separated, and we five moms had our own lane. Naturally, we were the slowest because we spent so much time going around watching and helping the kids.
Somehow I managed to only get an iPhone picture of the moms.
The kids had a ball (no pun intended), youngest to oldest!
We had so much fun, we talked about creating a friends’ summer bowling league and meeting at least once a month, maybe even picking up some sort of small trophy or other prize that the bowler with the best score could take home until the next time we meet.
Do you have any creative ideas for getting your kids and other families together this summer?
