Freely Give

Some of the best advice my mama ever gave me was to not be selfish- to freely give. That’s one thing I probably would have been clueless on had I not been around her so much. Some of her finest words to me were “Baby girl, when you get married and have children, that requires a lot of giving. You’ve got to give to make your marriage work. You’ve got to give so that those precious little lives will survive. They rely on you. But I know you can do it.”

Freely giving is hard.

I’m not a wife.

I’m not a mama.

I’m not a lot of things, but at the same time, I am a lot of things, too.

I’m finding out how (hard it is) to freely give. Along with that, though, I am finding the fruits of freely giving. I still need reminders to freely give- on Post-It notes, in notebooks, on the margins of school papers, my laptop wallpaper, and in iCal. It’s plastered all over my things.

Do you want to plaster it too? I made a (computer) wallpaper just for you. Download it here.

What are the sweetest words someone ever told you? How did you take them to heart?

“mommy, you’re a keeper” uttered by my son. He even gave me a nickel and said it was because I take such good care of them. This reminds me that mothering really is a ministry.

Freely giving can be very hard when it is done in human flesh. But when done through the Holy Spirit it is much easier to give.

Blessings Hannah! What a wonderful writer you are!

You’re momma is one smart cookie. It’s easy to slip into the mindset of holding on to things too tightly or feeling irritated when you “have” to give. Selfishness comes much more naturally than freely giving, but the fruit of freely giving is definitely much sweeter.

Love the graphic. A great reminder of all we’ve been given.
