How to Use Blogging in Your Homeschool

by Hannah on April 13, 2010

Blogging can be a great tool to use in your homeschool! I first started integrating my blogging into my family’s homeschool in 2007. It is so much fun! It’s something that both you and your children can enjoy. For you as the homeschool mom it might look like more of a journal and a place to connect with others. For your children it would be just a place to share what they’ve been learning. Some subjects you might have them blog about are:

Writing/Grammar

Nature Journaling

History/Geography

Special Interests (like photography)

You can taylor each blog according to that child’s interests. Make it fun for them! Once I realized I could use blogging as a homeschool tool, it greatly enhanced my learning (and still is)!

For school, I generally blog about writing/grammar in the form of book reviews. I kind of mesh nature journaling with the photography that I so love. Family vacations, field trips, and blog conferences (that you take your children to) could be blogged about as geography. Do your children have to take a poll in math but don’t have enough people at home? Make a blog poll!

If you spend a little time thinking and talking about it, it can be a great learning experience and open up new doors for your family!

What tool(s) have you used to enhance your family’s homeschool?

I agree! Keeping a blog has been a great way to see what we’ve accomplished throughout the year. At the end of the year I like to make a blog book using blurb.com. Then we have a hard copy “portfolio”.

I love the idea of this. My kids have not been consistent with it. I’m hoping they will start to be better about it soon (it is actually one of the things on their assignment sheets they never get around to doing).

So proud to see you writing at other places other than your own blog. Keep it up Hannah and I can see BIG things for your future!

You are a special friend AND blogger :)

((hugs))

I agree with you 100% about Nature Journaling, and how it brings together so many talents/interests. I had never considered that blogging is really the same thing. My oldest daughter has a blog to share her photos and poetry, two interests that both qualify as educational.
Great post, thanks!
