Life of Fred

by Tracy on November 16, 2009

I can no longer keep quiet! I MUST CONFESS! I LOVE FRED!

No, my husband’s name is not Fred. Fred is the name of a Five year old boy. The Five year old Math Professor, from “Kittens University”.

He teaches my kids math.

PhotobucketI am not joking he REALLY does! We have used Math-U-See since Kindergarten, with a short stint with Saxon, thrown in . My kids liked math ok. BUT NOW they LOVE it!

You can hear giggling coming from the other room. I say, “Hey! Aren’t you suppose to be doing your Math?” They say, “I am! It’s just Fred.”

I SMILE and go back to what I was doing. Yep, it’s Fred! Teaching my kids Math again!

Life of FredLife of Fred is THE MOST Unconventional and CHEAPEST Math Program Resource you could ever buy your children, {or yourself for that matter, Hubby needs a refresher in Algebra before he CLEP’s it}!

We started from the beginning with Fractions last year as a refresher, and they just finished Fractions and Decimals for FUN more practice, just in time for the Hot off the Presses Pre-Algebra 1 {with Biology}!!!

Have  YOU ever seen a child jump for joy, because their next math book finally arrived? I Have. And it’s all because of Fred!

I LOVE Fred.

Oh, you have piqued my interest! I read the samples. I told my husband. I couldn’t wait to tell my ds 13 who hates math. We want to meet Fred too! Thanks for your review!

Well, we love Life of Fred here too… however, maybe because of the age of my son, I find that he is skimming over things and not worrying that he doesn’t understand. Then he gets hit hard at the bridge test. I think I need to be more involved than I’ve been.

Tracy, so you’re supplementing Math-U-See with Fred? I’m interested!

Kristal- you might need to stress the importance of not moving forward it he doesn’t understand and if he doesn’t pass the bridge he is to re-do the chapter.

Dawn- no, we only use LoF now!

Yep, I agree. I have written about Fred too. I love this math. My daughter disliked math before LOF. She did fractions, decimals and is now successfully learning beginning algebra. It saved me! LOL

My daughter loves and is thriving with Fred. I found, however, that it does not work with my son. He could not see past the story to the math that was in it. He finally asked to go back to our previous math program (CLE). My daughter will cry if she ever has to leave Fred. :)

We are stuck on the first bridge in fractions. LOL. Three tries and still not at 90%. But amazingly, my daughter is sticking with it. The problems are challenging in a really good way — not mindless repetition of the same format over and over. Just a handful of varied problems. I really like what I’m seeing so far.
