Hello, everybody! I’m having such fun with the blog awards checking out all kinds of new blogs, and I hope you are, too!
But one thing that has really hit home with me lately as I homeschool via the internet is how much homeschooling has changed, even since I started doing it nine years ago. My daughters are now 14 and 12, and we’re still going strong.
When they were younger, I bought packaged curriculum for many subjects. For others I used antique schoolbooks (some of those spellers and grammar books from 1920 were just awesome. Much better and more thorough and logical than those available today! And I could pick them up for $1 at garage sales). And occasionally I would supplement by printing worksheets out that I found online.
But increasingly what’s occurring is that homeschool moms, like you and me, are creating our own curriculum, and then selling it online as ebooks. It’s amazing how much is available! You can buy cursive workbooks. You can buy copywork using biblical passages. You can buy unit studies. You can buy high school Latin courses. Pretty much anything you want is availalbe in ebook form, often far cheaper than it would be if you bought it as a book. You just pay by credit card, it’s super easy, and you get it right away.
I used to love going to curriculum fairs and browsing through all the curriculum, but now I can do virtually the same thing at CurrClick. You can browse by age or subject, and there are thousands upon thousands of ebooks and curriculum available. And here’s the neat thing: you can pay and download them immediately, and use them even that day. So if you’re desperate for something now, and you find it online, you don’t have to wait for someone to ship it. I really like that, because I frequently find that I’m not that organized. A brilliant idea will occur to me, that should have occurred to me weeks ago so I could prepare for the lesson, but it didn’t. But now it’s okay, because chances are I can find an ebook that completely matches what I’m looking for! So I love Currclick.
If you’re looking for other downloadable curriculum, you can search for “ebook” and “homeschool curriculum”. But here are some other great sites that can help you: Here’s an Australian site with a heavy emphasis on English, Language Arts, and Copywork: DownUnder Lit. And they have stuff you can download right away!
Heart of Wisdom has many tools that are free that you can download right away. Great site by a woman that I just love!
Then, if you’re more interested in video learning, rather than traditional pen and paper learning, Think Well has awesome video courses for high school math and science. Find out more here.
Finally, I’m working on my own downloadable curriculum! My “Any Novel” Novel Study Guide lets kids, grades 6-12, study any novel without needing to purchase a specific study guide. This four week course helps students analyze plot, character, theme, and setting, and has exercises even for students who hate writing. If they’re more hands-on learners, or they’re more artsy, they can take the study in that direction, too. Learn more about that here.
What are your best resources for homeschooling downloadable curriculum? Leave them in the comments so we can all benefit!
That’s all I’ve got for you today, but I’ll have more on my next Tuesday Tour! And in the meantime, please stop by my blog, To Love, Honor and Vacuum! I’m talking marriage, motherhood, the insanity of our culture, and more!
