A Paper Harvest

by Lori on November 2, 2009

The other day I was at Archiver’s.
Be warned.
This place is dangerous if you happen to have a paper addiction as I do. I do hope that the Good Lord will have paper waiting for me at the Pearly Gates…an eternity to play with paper.  I can only imagine…

anyway,

While we were wandering around, we spotted these ADORABLE paper pumpkins that were part of some kind of kit, which they happened to be out of. They looked simple enough! I had my trusty assistant with me, and she snapped a few pics for me and viola!  I had a pattern to go by! We were on our way!

With all that we have going on in our lives these days, there just are not enough opportunities to craft. This is one of those activities that can be part art project, part math activity and part service project.

The instructions are below and if  this holiday season finds you on a budget, and who isn’t, these are economical and unique. The patterns are limitless, and they would be cute with a Bible verse written on the leaf or a note of thanks or a mini loaf of bread tucked inside.

For each pumpkin you’ll need:

12-1 inch strips of 12X12 assorted paper

(Don’t be afraid! Mix and match papers you love that are in fall hues, this makes them look a bit like a patchwork! No two will be alike! (The art project!)
2 brads
decorations for the tops(I used leaf cutouts and raffia!)

Once you’ve measured and cut the paper strips, (the math project) gather them up and hole punch both ends.

You’re going to be connecting them. Secure one end with a brad and then separate the other ends so that they end up in a circular pattern. Next you’ll take the other brad and one strip at a time add it to the brad prong so that eventually you end up with all of the strips attached. You can adjust them once you get the brad secured.
If you look at the picture, you’ll get the idea. It’s a bit tricky to explain! (should have done a video! HA)

Then simply adorn the tops. I used leaf cut outs and raffia for a rustic look, but any kind of fall ribbon would work.

~and there you have it…A Paper Pumpkin Patch! It’s an inexpensive way to share a spirit of Thanksgiving with those around you. The local nursing home or community center would love to have these to decorate with. (The Service project!)

Happy Crafting!Lori

What a neat project and simple enough, too, Lori! And I may even have some, um, paper around here to use! LOL!

Thanks for sharing!

Blessings,

I am like you – hoping heaven is filled with a plethora of delicious papers. My favorite past time is sitting around making cards (and quite a big mess) with my college-aged daughter.

Thanks for posting the cute paper pumpkin idea!

Ladies, these really ARE easy to make and economical! I forgot to add in the post above…there was also a Writing Project that we did. My middle child did an expository writing paper on “How to Make a Paper Piumpkin…” Just thought I’d add that to the mix:)

Happy Paper Playing!
peace!
