Better Blogging: 3 Points

by SuperAngel on October 17, 2009

When I first started blogging, we had set rules. It was for our protection because the internet can be a dangerous place. Blogging is a wonderful experience that everyone should partake in. The way you go about it is what will protect you and your children. I thought I’d share some good guidelines on how to blog and be safe. This will be really great if you are considering letting your children get a blog. Making sure you have guidelines and rules to follow from the beginning is what’s gonna make your blogging experience safe and great!

Point #1: Purpose
Why am I or my child/ren blogging? There are many reasons you can get a blog. You can get to write about homeschooling or homeschool assignments. You can write about daily family life. You can get a blog to write about food and recipes. You can get a blog to write about Scriptures and what you’ve learned. There are so many possibilities for what you can blog about. The main thing to decide when getting a blog is the purpose of it and sticking with that. What is the purpose of blogging going to be for you?

Point #2: Rules
Next you want to make sure you have some rules set. When I first started blogging at the age of 16, we were only allowed about 2 hours a day, 2 days a week to post and reply to comments we had received. We weren’t allowed to surf blogs. My mom had specific blogs that were approved we could visit. You want to make sure that your children aren’t reading blogs or sites that you don’t agree with.
Obviously those would be for children. :) But as an adult we also want to make sure we are reading things that are edifying and we don’t want to just waste our time all over the blogosphere. ;) If we get the first point down, this point should be pretty easy because we have set a goal for our blogging.

Point #3: Accountability
Thirdly, make sure you are accountable. If you let your child/ren get a blog site, make sure you’re commenting and interacting on their site that way you’re always participating with them and know what’s happening and holding them accountable.
If you’re an adult, I think its pretty easy to be accountable if you have points one and two together. :)

If you have other tips to become a better blogger, share them below! We can all use encouragement and ideas from one another!
