I may have been blogging for four years now, but writing with a group of women on a blog together is new for me. I know many of these awesome women already through their personal blogs, and had the honor of meeting Heather and Dawn in person recently.
Blogging and the internet has opened up so many doors and resources for me that I never knew existed when I first began homeschooling six years ago. When I started my homeschooling journey, I felt a little isolated and thirsty for ideas and encouragement. Blogs, like this one and many others, have filled in that gap. Now there seems no end to the information I can get anytime I need it.
I’m looking forward to writing here, and to the Homeschool Blog Awards. It’s always a great way to find new-to-me blogs, get a chance acknowledge those I think are doing a great job by nominating them, and peek in on what others are learning at home.
So who am I?
I am the mother of four children. I take pictures for fun, read compulsively and write to remember. My husband and I have been married for 19 years, and the majority of those years have been spent right here, in our hometown in Arkansas.
We are conservative Christians and we are raising our sheltered, antisocial children this way. In another life, I taught English to junior high students. Then, I had my first baby, decided I couldn’t leave her and have been home ever since. Homeschooling seemed like a natural transition. I jumped in and never looked back, though my house has suffered for it and it may never be the same (especially since I’ll be homeschooling well into my 50s).
I’m looking forward to meeting the readers here, so if you have a minute, say hello in the comments and ask me a question. I’m terrible at writing my own bio and I’m sure I left something out.
You can also find me at my personal blog A Familiar Path.

I’m so glad you are on board!
So glad you’re part of the team!
You’re going to be great, Melissa!
Great! I only just subscribed to this blog in my google reader and low and behold – first post up is someone I recognize. Super!
Hello! I love the comment about the antisocial sheltered children! I love humor and live by it. I have been homeschooling for 8 years now and was a CAREER girl before. I am a designer that stays home and LOVES to be a homeschool mom. It is a lifestyle change and we love it. I have a 23 year old (college now), 16 year old and and 8 year old. My two oldest are boys and debated/debate nationally and my daughter has her horse “Christmas” which brings her to life and taught her read…seriously. Visit me sometime on luvinhome@blogspot. Let me know what you think. I am still learning so much about this “blogging thing”. I follow sprittibee because I ran into her first while searching for a second grade reading list. God just opened my eyes to blogging when I found her spirit in writing reminding me of my own thoughts. I love to tell stories of God’s miracles in my life and hey, you are one. Thanks for all you guys are doing out there. Your sites are awesome and I hope to connect to them all. Praise God and may he bless your work daily.

welcome, melissa! i look forward to getting to know you.
Hi! I just found this site a couple of weeks ago. I discovered blogging through homeschool, too…by searching for ideas and answers to questions. I love it! I can’t actually believe I never really knew what blogging was until last year.
Thanks for saying that about the house, I don’t feel so bad now.
Welcome, I look forward to reading your posts
Welcome to the team – I’m new too and excited to be a part of it!
thanks for the welcome ya’ll.
LOL! As a homeschooling mom who is in her 50′s now, I can firmly say that you are right…your house will never be the same again! The bonus is that it does turn into something much more important – a home the kids have grown to love after spending so much time there!
Looking forward to your upcoming posts here, Melissa
Blessings,
Tammy ~@~
