Hello, all! I am excited to join you for this Tuesday tour.
Lately I’ve been touring all over the place on the internet. In fact, I’ve been stumbling. Do you use StumbleUpon? It’s a really neat internet tool where you tell it what you like, and it shows you websites that meet your criteria. And then you get to rate the ones that you do like with a thumbs up. The more you “stumble”, meaning the more you rate sites, the smarter the thing becomes and sends you some really neat stuff.
So without further adieu, here is some great content I have found by stumbling!
First, the Thinking Mother has an awesome roundup of her favorite homeschooling sites on the web. She has simple sites where you can print out worksheets to more complex sites that tackle difficult subjects. It’s awesome, and she rates everything. Check it out and bookmark it!
Amy over at With Purpose has a really useful post with a treasure trove of homeschooling for free sites on the internet. Don’t miss it, if you’re homeschooling on a budget (as we all are!).
If you’re doing research for a unit study, or you need some quick information, where do you usually turn? Google? Here’s an even better place! Every major reference source is linked to on one page, at TeacherXpress. Bookmark that one, too!
And are you trying to teach multiplication facts? The periodic table? Dates in American history? The kings and queens of England? Why not try flashcards? Every flashcard you can imagine has already been made and is available for FREE download here. Every now and then I have to send my kids to work on their own for a day because I have stuff that needs to get done. On those days, I tell them to download a new history one and learn it! It’s fun.
Now let’s take a tour of other types of posts. I posted last weekend on our decision not to have a television, and boy did I get lambasted in the comments! Someone insulted me for homeschooling and sheltering my kids. So I replied that sheltering is not a bad word. Read the first post about switching off television here, and my response (and his comment) here.
If you’re a Canadian, the Canadian Homeschooling Carnival is here. They really need more participation, so do send a link! Great chance to drive traffic to your site.
There’s an interesting discussion led by Robin over at Heart of Wisdom blog on what it means to schedule by faith when it comes to your homeschooling. Read the comments, and leave one yourself!
Awesome post by Kris over at Weird Unsocialized Homeschoolers about what a typical day looks like. She asks the question, “do you ever feel like you don’t get enough done?”. Steal some of her ideas; they’re good!
And finally, do you have trouble getting your children to write book reports properly? Do they just restate the plot? I have a great FREE book report outline that you can download that can help your children plan them properly and write them better. It’s working in our homeschool (ending years of frustration, I might add!).
Have a great day!

Sheila Wray Gregoire is the author of four books, including Honey, I Don’t Have a Headache Tonight: Help for women who want to feel more in the mood. She homeschools three children, and blogs at To Love, Honor and Vacuum.

I cannot believe how people have come to believe that not having a tv is a damage to children. Even if they don’t agree with you that television programs are immoral (most of them), does it really damage children to not watch any tv? I thought tv was a leisure time filler, not a necessity.
Thanks for all the links, I have opened quite a few of them up for reading later when I need to take a break.

Wow! What a pleasant surprise to see my blog linked on the Tuesday Tour! Thanks for including it. Now, off to check off all the other great links.
Thanks for your mention here, Sheila, in a great post…I always love another excuse to spend a little more time perusing useful sites from fellow homeschoolers!
