Saturday Scripture: Be Still, My Soul!

by SuperAngel on January 17, 2009

It is so hard to believe that everything will be all right when everything is so wrong. When the wicked prosper against you, when you have plans that get messed, when things just don’t come together and work properly. It is hard to remember to:

Psalm 46:10
Be still, and know that I am God.”

But He is God. He is sitting on the throne. He reigns. He is in control of every situation in our lives. He knows what needs to happen and what will happen. He is God!
Saturday Psalm & PraiseEven though it is so hard to look past what is happening in the here and now and at this moment, we can always know that God has a plan and through everything that happens He is there and He is working. He has promised us:

1 Corinthians 10:13
There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

God will not allow us to go through things that we cannot handle. He always provides the strength to continue and press on and He will give us a way out when it becomes too much! That is truly encouraging to me. To know that even though I face amazingly hard times in my life, God will not give me more than I can handle!

I was going through scriptures today and as I was reading God brought to my heart one of my favorites hymns: Be Still, My Soul. I know I have already shared this hymn before, but it really spoke to me today because I need to just be still and know God is God and He is in control of everything going on. Things that are going on in the light and in the darkness and He is watching and protecting me. I just need to be still and:

1 Peter 5:7
Cast all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

So today I am going to be still and just know God is God.

Be still, my soul:
the Lord is on thy side.
Bear patiently
the cross of grief or pain.
Leave to thy God
to order and provide;
In every change,
He faithful will remain.

Be still, my soul:
thy best, thy heavenly Friend
Through thorny ways
leads to a joyful end.Be still, my soul:
thy God doth undertake
To guide the future,
as He has the past.
Thy hope, thy confidence
let nothing shake;
All now mysterious
shall be bright at last.

Be still, my soul:
the waves and winds
still know His voice
Who ruled them
while He dwelt below.Be still, my soul:
when dearest friends depart,
And all is darkened
in the vale of tears,
Then shalt thou better know
His love, His heart,
Who comes to soothe
thy sorrow and thy fears.

Be still, my soul:
thy Jesus can repay
From His own fullness
all He takes away.

Be still, my soul:
the hour is hastening on
When we shall be
forever with the Lord.
When disappointment,
grief, and fear are gone,
Sorrow forgot,
love’s purest joys restored.

Be still, my soul:
when change and tears are past,
All safe and blessed
we shall meet at last.

Be still, my soul:
begin the song of praise
On earth, believing,
to thy Lord on high;
Acknowledge Him
in all thy works and ways,
So shall He view
thee with a well-pleased eye.

Be still, my soul:
the Sun of life divine
Through passing clouds
shall but more brightly shine.

There are no words to describe how awesome and wonderful our God is! I am so glad I can just be still in this crazy life and know He is God and He reigns over it all!

Have a blessed and wonderful day!

I love how God uses many ways to give us the words He wants us to hear – right down to a blog post. :)

Bless you, Candice – Praying for God’s wisdom for you through this season.

Thanks ladies! I am currently experiencing a loss. It is a loss of a job that I thought I would have for more than just one year….I am a first grade teacher and I really love my school, and although I know the Lord will provide another job, I am just saddened that I will have to leave. As the school year comes to a close and I begin to take down the bulletin boards and decorations, I feel sad.
